The race legend is pushing for the podium again!
Rock Shox is sending its XC series winner SID into the 2021 model year with a complete overhaul and is clearly underlining its own claim with the SID SL (Superlight): This high-speed fork should continue to dominate the racetracks of this world in the future!
To this end, Rock Shox has put just about everything on the test bench for the SID SL Ultimate in order to save weight at every possible point. This is evident not only through the numerous cut-outs, beads and material savings that extend from the casting to the fork crown to the maximally reduced valve protection cap. The weight saving is especially visible in the newly developed Charger™ Race Day shock cartridge, the unique selling point of the Ultimate version. Significantly slimmer than its predecessor, it saves almost 100 grams on the scales with its lower oil volume, cut-outs on the top cap and rebound adjustment via an integrated hexagon socket spanner. All in all, the SID SL Ultimate weighs a record-breaking 1326 grams.
On the trail, the SID SL with its 100 mm travel scores points not only because of its low weight. The proven DebonAir™ air spring has also been modified: By repositioning the compensation channel between the air chambers, the SID SL is supposed to react more sensitively to smaller impacts and at the same time stand higher in the suspension travel. In conjunction with the optimally factory-set shock, Rock Shox has given the SID SL Ultimate characteristics that can happily meet the increased demands of modern XC courses. In addition, there is a rigid lockout that lives up to its name and enables efficient pedalling during power-sapping passages.
Of course, the smooth Maxima Plush damper oil and high-quality SKF seals on the SID SL Ultimate also ensure low-friction and quiet suspension operations. The fork bridge, milled from aluminium and anodised, also gives the SID an edgier image. And last but not least, Rock Shox has used the well-known colouring to once again confirm the iconic status of the Race fork. No doubt about it: The legend lives on!
